Goldwork

The term denotes embroidery using gold thread.  Most often this thread is made of beaten silver which has been gilded (silver gilt) and wrapped around a silk or cotton core.  The result is opulent and highly reflective especially when seen in candlelight.  Textiles are also found where beaten strips of gold leaf have been ‘couched’ securely in place to dazzling effect.
