Modernist and Art Deco

Between the First and Second World Wars the sensual yet streamlined silhouette of the Art Deco style was paramount in all areas of design and groundbreaking designers such as Jean Michel Frank and Emile Jacques Ruhlmann designed some of the most creative carpets of the machine age. Modernism is the most influential of all of the 20th century movements with its bold abstraction and pared down sensibilities. Architects and designers such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Bruno Da Silva Bruhns, Jean Lurçat, Marion Dorn and Märta Måås-Fjetterström made a complete break with the carpet weaving tradition of the past and invented a totally new design language suitable for the interiors of the future.
