Table Carpets

Apart from sets of bed hangings, the table carpet was the most important domestic textile. Records show royal sets of table carpets being ordered in London as early as 1350. When a table was not in use for dining the table covered with a sumptuous table carpet served as an important focal point in state or reception rooms. Frequently the designs included family heraldry.
