Baroque

Baroque designs led to some of the most opulent and striking silks, velvets and embroideries.  The 17th century was a highpoint for textiles used in decoration.  It was at this time that stumpwork and crewelwork reached a peak of perfection and flame stitch was used throughout Europe.  During the second half of the 17th century chinoiserie and exotic subjects were adopted by textile designers.
