This early French tapestry depicts a hunting scene with a young nobleman in period attire carrying a spear, attended by a pair of hunting dogs and a retainer holding a crossbow. A stag with resplendent antlers has been pursued into a woodland pool. Scenes of courtly pursuits such as hunting, riding, music, and romance were often the subjects of gothic tapestry weaving during the fifteenth and early years of the sixteenth centuries.
