The design of this French Savonnerie, encompassing bunches of grapes contained within the central medallion and encircling the perimeter of the carpet, suggests that it may have been commissioned for use in a wine-making Chateau. The field is covered by a blue latticed framework and is punctuated by at each corner with urns containing bunches of stylised flowers. The main border of scrolling acanthus leaves is very much in the spirit of St Ange.
