The
all-over lattice design of this early Chinese carpet, drawn
in ink-blue and outlined in cyan, is composed using the
Chinese "longevity" symbol. Within the lattice are contained
bat and rosette motifs and a warm honey coloured field is
revealed throughout. The whole is surrounded by a meandering
key border, itself enclosed within three outer guard
stripes.
